FeedDemon FAQ: Why don't unread counts in synchronized folders always match those in Google Reader?
In most cases, synchronized folders will have the same unread counts in FeedDemon as they do in Google Reader. However, they are some situations where the counts will differ:
- Google Reader automatically marks articles as read after 30 days, so if you haven't used FeedDemon in while, it's possible that older articles in FeedDemon won't reflect the fact that they've been marked read online. In this situation, forcing FeedDemon to resynchronize with Google Reader will correct your unread counts.
- By default, FeedDemon only retains the most recent 200 articles in each feed, which is usually more than enough. However, you may need to increase this for high-traffic feeds (that is, feeds that publish dozens - or even hundreds - of articles in a few day's time). To do this, right-click on the feed, select "Feed Properties," then switch to the Updating tab and adjust the "Archiving" setting. If you wish to increase this number for all your feeds, right-click Subscriptions in the feed bar, then choose "Folder Properties" and adjust the "Archiving" setting.
-
FeedDemon doesn't "tell" Google Reader that an article was marked read right away - instead, it remembers the articles you read and then tells Google they were marked read at regular intervals. If your computer crashes before FeedDemon can send this information to Google, it's possible that unread counts will differ (although FeedDemon does attempt to detect and resolve this situation without intervention). In this case, using the resynchronize feature will correct the problem.
