FeedDemon 1.0 RC3 Release Notes
November 4, 2003
Important:
Due to changes in this release, news items downloaded using earlier releases will be removed after installing RC3.
Your groups, watches and news bins will be left intact, but previously downloaded news items will be deleted.
Additions, Changes and Fixes
Additions
-
Added language item to the Options menu which enables selecting a different UI language or downloading additional language file.
The language selection has been removed from the Options dialog in favor of this new menu item.
- "View newsfeed source" button added to "Advanced" tab in Channel Properties
- Added "Previous Channel" and "Previous Unread Channel" to keyboard shortcuts dialog
- Auto-purging of news items no longer removes flagged items
- Channel images are now displayed by the "Default" style
Changes
-
Localization is now handled by one XML file per language rather than three, and each language file is stored in the
Data\Lang folder rather than in a subfolder of it. This should significantly simplify installing
new languages.
- Double-clicking the FeedDemon tray icon when FeedDemon isn't minimized now brings it to the front instead of minimizing it
Fixes
-
When a GZIP'ed feed fails to decompress, the cached channel file may become corrupted. This caused numerous access violation errors,
newspaper display problems and download issues.
-
Feeds encoded as ISO-8859-1 and Windows-1252 are incorrectly converted to ANSI when saved by FeedDemon,
resulting in a loss of accented characters
-
"Get New Styles" displays in default browser instead of inside FeedDemon when option to show external links in
the default browser is enabled
- After deleting a news item, the list of news items scrolls to a different location and/or loses the keyboard focus
- "Don't show this message again" dialog isn't localizable
- "Stop" button that appears on the "New Channel" dialog when auto-discovery is enabled doesn't always accept clicks
-
"Back" and "Forward" buttons above preview may be incorrectly enabled/disabled after opening a new tab in
the background by holding Shift and clicking a link.
- "File in use" error when local FDXSL file (newspaper style) passed in the command line
- Column names in news item grid and "Columns" submenu aren't reset when language is changed
Known Issues
- There is currently no help available for FeedDemon
-
FeedDemon's date calculations are ISO 8601 compliant, which means that they treat Monday as the first day of the week. As a result,
grouping news items by date may show Sunday of the current week as "Last Week."
